13 days until one of my "most favorite times of the year".... The SOUTH CAROLINA State Fair! I can already smell the elephants ears, Fiske French Fries covered in vinegar, and giant turkey legs. No where else in the world would you wait in line 20 minutes for food that will probably kill you.
Last year, I flew from Austin, TX to Columbia, SC for my brother's wedding and a pit-stop at the fair. My husband and I were left standing at baggage claim in possibly the world's smallest airport (Columbia), as my sister and best friend could not navigate their way to "arrivals". After twenty minutes or so we jumped into the car and began to reminisce about our childhood days at the fair. Elephant ears, candy apples, cotton candy, fried Snickers bars, french fries, donuts... we rambled off everything we intended to eat that night. As the night ended (all of about an hour) we laughed about how big and magical the fair seemed when we were little girls. It might not seem as big as it used to, but it certainly still has its magic. My best friend and I are already planning a map to our favorite vendors to maximize our eating experience this year... can't wait to fill y'all in!
